Co-op America approved!

August 12, 2007 | Company news

Co-op America is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to harnessing the economic power of consumers, investors and businesses to promote social justice and environmental sustainability. It’s good stuff. Social justice. Environmental sustainability. Gives us all kinds of warm fuzzies.

Prior to our inclusion in Co-op’s Green Pages, there were only 18 cleaning services approved. We’re number 19. That’s pretty special. The application and screening process is pretty intense, and that’s why there are so few cleaning services represented. Honestly, I’m hoping to see more of our competitors seek approval. It’s good for the community. It’s quite an honor for Broom Huggers to be recognized by Co-op America as a truly green maid service - the only one here in the Atlanta area. But it would be so good for Atlanta if some of our competing housekeeping services came over to the green side. All-natural is good for the community. But until they do, we’re happy to meet the needs of local clients with high expectations for health and sustainability!

    Congratulations!

Being aware how you influence the environment, meaning yourself, your grandchildren, the earth, is very important.

I’m not sure what you mean with social justice in this context.

Thanks for asking about social justice laane! It’s really exciting to us. First of all, we make our jobs available to the local refugee community before we advertise them to the general public. We also treat our employees better - and pay them better - than they would expect in this industry. We give them the tools to keep their own homes healthy (free healthy cleaning products). We’re committed to Fair Trade, and we try to implement those principles in our business. We’re also committed to helping community efforts - Habitat for Humanity and Wellspring. We also look for ways to bring in Fair Trade products into the business - whether its paper products, cleaning cloths, or offering client discounts for proof of purchase of Fair Trade items.

We want to see our community using their monetary resources more responsibly to bring change to disadvantaged populations, and we want to set the example for it. It’s fun, it’s challenging in this industry, but the benefits make it all worthwhile.
