I’m gonna save me some moola!

Just when I was about to spend $15 a pop on 4 Foogo sippies for my kids, I came across this awesome post at The Soft Landing (another Co-Op America member). They’ve done their research, and it turns out that Nuby sippies, bottles, teethers, and spoons are BPA-free! This is great news because (a) I already have a few of them and don’t need to chuck them and (b) they’re CHEAP! I can buy them at WalMart for a couple bucks.

Sure, they aren’t as cool as Foogos. And they won’t insulate my kids’ milk. (So maybe I should get each of my kids a Foogo for their milk and use Nuby’s for their water…) And they’re not fully leak-proof. But at $1.14 compared to $14.95 plus shipping, that’s a deal! Thanks to the good folks over at The Soft Landing for providing the info. And check out their online store here - they have all types of BPA-free feeding gear for babies, toddlers, big kids, and even adults.

As for the Nuby’s (that I didn’t even know were BPA-free), here’s my review of the Easy Grip Sipper Cup (pictured above). This was the first sippy my daughter would accept. We tried tons of them, but she wouldn’t switch from the bottle until we picked up one of these at WalMart. The sippy part is made of soft silicone, so it feels more like a bottle than traditional hard-spout sippy cups. It only releases liquid when your child drinks, so there are no valves needed to keep it from spilling (also makes for easy washing). I found that it does leak when left on its side - not as much as the old-style sippy cups (you know, the ones my mom used with me - they were certainly not leak-proof), but it does leak more than our old standby (BPA-laden) Playtex sippy cups. Also, if you have one rolling around in your bag and something sits up against the spout, you’ll have major leakage on your hands. That makes them somewhat impractical for travel purposes. But Nuby does have other cups in their line (like straw-cups) that would be more suited for out and about trips.

All in all, the Nuby’s are an excellent choice for the switch from bottle to cup, and knowing that they’re BPA-free makes them a very economical, safe choice for a go-to, general use sippy. I think it’s about time to restock my supply. While I’m restocking I’ll also go ahead and stock one Foogo for each child - the insulation is awesome for milk, and I know they won’t spill in my bag when we’re in town.

I have called the company about The First Years Take & Toss cups with lids & straws. These are great for non sippys, but cups w/ lids. The company said that none of the Take & Toss line has BPA in it. YAY! And they are like $2.50 for 4 w/ reusable straws & lids, so if you loose one somewhere no biggy!
