I’m afraid I can’t take credit for this one. It’s my aunt’s idea, related to me by my mother. As it turns out, they’re some pretty smart ladies. The dilemma? Coordinating everything in the room when you’re redecorating, and making it accessible - to take with you to the fabric store, the paint store, etc…
Get this! My aunt paints the inside of a file folder with whatever paint she chooses for the room. 2 coats, of course, and lets it dry. Once dry, in the folder go swatches of fabric from the room - curtains, upholstery, quilts, etc. She also puts in there index cards painted with trim color from the room or from adjoining rooms. Then when she heads off to the furniture store or where ever else, the folder goes along with her. No more toting around a huge throw pillow and 6 different miniature paint swatches.
When she’s done the folder is filed away for future use, since you never know when you’ll want to recover the throw pillows or update the window treatments. So next time you paint, paint the inside of a file folder and a couple index cards - just to have on hand.
That’s what Works for Me. Head over to Shannon’s place for more helpful tips.

Cool idea! I always just grab a couple of paint chips, but that’s very interesting. TFS!

What a great idea! That would really simplify coordinating entire areas too — open floor plan living space, kitchen, and dining. Thanks!
