New Years Resolution success
We’re 2 1/2 weeks in, so how are you doing with those new years resolutions? We can’t help with all of them, but if you resolved to clean your house better or keep it organized, maybe we have something to offer.
First things first, an organized home is easier to keep clean than a cluttered home. If you’re having a hard time keeping up, it might help to make sure you have a grasp on your nick-nacks and such, but also that your home has a plan and a purpose for each area.
Next, evaluate what’s really important to you. Basically, pick your battles. If you want your home clean so you can entertain more than it’s really important to have appropriate areas clean – kitchen, bathroom, gathering areas. If you’re cleaning up to help with allergies on the other hand, then dust and air quality should have a bigger focus. Do you see where I’m going with this? Figure what the small stuff is, then don’t sweat the small stuff.
As a cleaning company, there are a few things we would consider to be important for everyone. Here’s what we’d pick:
- Make sure moisture-oriented areas are clean. Showers, toilets, sinks – you get the idea. Those have the potential to grow mildew and mold which can adversely affect health.
- Linens and beds. You spend about 1/3 of your day every day in bed. Shouldn’t it be clean, with clean sheets? You’ll get better sleep if you keep your bed clean and fresh, too.
- Instant-gratification things. If you’re trying to motivate yourself to clean, focus your time on things you can see immediately. Shine your sink. Dust that table that always catches your eye (and catches dust too). Fingerprints or water spots on a mirror. Do some of those instant gratification things to motivate yourself for bigger tasks.
If you’re still having problems keeping up with the cleaning, think about calling a maid service. Even if you only have them come once so that you can get on top of it, having extra hands – especially hands who clean professionally – can get you on track. If it’s a priority for you, see if monthly cleanings would fit into your budget, or if you could cut back on something else to make them fit in. For instance, the savings on ineffective cleaning supplies and vacuum maintenance might help get you on your way.
If you’re in the market for a cleaning company in the North East Atlanta area, consider Broom Huggers (shameless plug, we know). We’re an all-natural maid service in Gwinnett and North Fulton counties. Eco-friendly and all that jazz. We do free estimates…

I have been doing housecleaning for over 20 years and I agree whole heartedly with everything you discuss in this article. Housecleaning companies are as a rule not all that expensive and it makes the clients life just a little bit easier.
