Snowed in?
Well, we’re not, here in Atlanta. But my kids are acting as if they were. We’re in the midst of a rousing game of Red Light Green Light in the living room and dining room. It occurs to me that maybe this isn’t the best game to play in the house with a baby crawling around on the floor. Yet still, here we are.
In solidarity with our friends who are snowed in (but still have electricity and internet), share a few of your favorite indoor games to entertain the kids.

On days when we’re snowed in (i.e. there’s no school), the rule is that no one is allowed to say they’re bored. We drag out the laundry baskets and they play in those for hours – literally! And my kids are 7 and 4. They’ll pretend they’re boats, try to knock each other over them, try to scoot around on the floor (we have hardwoods) and all kinds of things. We also play a lot of board games or card games. And the Play Doh and art supplies only come out really on those days when nothing else seems to work.
Our snow day rule is to get outside and sled down a hill. It’s good exercise and it makes kids super hungry so they eat well later. If they are still young and they run around for a long time, they will be ready for a nice afternoon nap when you can get some work done. Cheers -
I remember those days. My daughters are all grown up now, so thank goodness I don’t have to entertain them when it snows. My main memory is the constant pile of wet clothes by the door and trips back and forth to the dryer. I can actually look forward to snow now.
I remember also. My son asked me to help him with his homework. Since I work late, it’s usually my husband’s job but as my son informed me “Dad gets cranky when he helps me”) It seems my 3rd grade teacher husband can do many things except deal with his son’s teacher (who he thinks is a copy queen) and doesn’t agree with her homework or classroom teaching style. It seems my son misses our homework time and wanted to wait for me to help him. Greetings, Egipt Kreta.
Play board games?this will definitely keep them entertained for a few hours. One of my favourite board games is game of life. It’s quite educating too!
when snowed in we usually just enjoy a board game or card game. Good to have a new one just before winter..
One thing I don’t miss about moving away from Pittsburgh was being snowed in, that was not always so fun haha.
