Housecleaning tips!

By mudlark • February 27th, 2009

Are you looking for some guidance in cleaning your home? Well, it’s not 100% green, but CNN just published a great interactive guide to housekeeping, including focus spots and frequency of cleaning different areas. We like what they have to say about antibacterials, but when it comes to disinfectant wipes, keep in mind that there are green alternatives, like reusable cloths with vinegar or essential oils like cinnamon or thyme.

And we should avoid being hysterical about cleaning. Germ-free homes will not make your kid resistant.

Thanks for sharing with us! I always wanted to be a green person! I guess I can start off with household products and cleaning agents!

Another great benefit of using vinegar (white vinegar) is that it helps repel ants. If you have ants’ problems and just couldn’t get rid of them, try cleaning your furniture with vinegar. Beside its antibacterial properties, you will be surprise how effective it is in driving away ants. Why use chemicals if you can achieve better results in a cheap, natural and green way?

Yes don’t use chemicals !! we love organic.

its about time that people should understand how beneficial it is to use green products. Thanks to this post and your recommended link, a lot of people will be informed by this.

I went green years ago before it was vogue and I know that it has made a huge difference in the health of me and my family. I agree that we should not be hysterical about having a germ free house because it isn’t ever going to happen but if there are green cleaners out there that do just as good a job as non-green cleaners, why not choose the former?

i baught a used stroller that is great shape but it needs a good cleanig what should i use

Is it true? that we can use vinegar to clean some furniture? my mom always bought different detergent or cleaning materials with chemicals. I will tell her that she must try to use white vinegar. Green Living will save the earth from Global Warming!!

Although green cleaning may take a bit more elbow greese, it’s better for both people and the environment. Since I’ve started using green cleaners, I haven’t had trouble breathing while cleaning or had any skin irritation. Keep it green!

Scary that the kitchen sink is one of the worst spots … and even less clean than the toilet seat! When it comes to house cleaning I’ve never really used too many antibacterial products because I’ve always believed we need to be exposed to some bacteria to strengthen our immune systems. Really great tip about microwaving the sponges – I always thought they weren’t really clean beyond the first use. Vinegar is indeed a wonderful green cleaning choice. The Ecover brand eco-friendly housecleaning products are ouf family favorite though.

Best post yet!

Great post!! Using organic materials to clean house is better than organic ones.
