Clean refrigerator coils keep their cool!

By mudlark • July 1st, 2009

Did you know that your refrigerator has to work harder when the coils are dirty? And did you know that the coils collect dust like nobody’s business?

The good news is, your refrigerator coils are easy to clean. Unplug the fridge and then find the coils. In most fridges they’re behind the kickplate under the appliance, but on some you’ll see them easily exposed around the back. Once you’ve found them use the flat hose attachment to your vacuum and attack the dust. If you’re really industrious you can buy a long, conical brush at your local hardware store and brush off any stubborn left-over dust.

You’ll make your refrigerator happy, and that’ll make your electric bill happy.

We got some tips on our website , check this out! :)

I would like to add one suggestion to your refrigerator maintenance. If you have a system that provides indoor water and ice I would suggest changing your refrigerator water filter. It is recommended, by experts and manufactures, to change your refrigerator filter every six months. Old filters can reduce the performance of in door water and ice dispenser, not to make mention of potentially allowing contaminates that have been filter back in your water.

This is great advice in the age of being environmentally friendly and conscious of our wallets. I wasn’t aware of this before. We’ll see if I notice a difference in energy bills :)

little things make big difference! especially in the area of energy consumption, saving from buying new appliance and daily inconveniences. taking good care of my refrigerator coils will do the trick! thanks!
