Broom Huggers. Kind of reminiscent of tree huggers, right? Well, that’s sort of what we are. A combination of tree huggers and people who love to clean. Broom Huggers is North East Atlanta’s green maid service, all-natural housekeepers, eco-friendly maids - call it what you like, we’re all those things and more.

We believe that a well-functioning home is more important than a clean home, but that your home can’t quite function the way you want it to until it’s clean. We believe there’s more to clean than an absence of dirt. That there’s a connection between the way we treat our homes and the way we treat ourselves. We believe the environment and community we live in is just as important as our individual homes. And we believe that you and your family will benefit more from having a healthy house than from a house free of dirt.

We achieve healthy homes by using all natural, condensed, biodegradable cleaning products based from plant sources. We’re hypo-allergenic. Petroleum-free. Animal friendly. We know all about asthma triggers and family health. And we take good care of the environment by using re-usable cloths instead of paper towels or single-use products so that you can pass on a healthy planet to your children and grandchildren.

My story (by Kathy)
I’m the founder of Broom Huggers, and it’s been a labor of love from the very start. I noticed after my first was born that I was constantly worried about my cleaning products’ effect on my newborn baby. How long should I wait after mopping the floor before letting her crawl on the floor? How much bleach residue did those Clorox bleach wipes leave on the counter? If the fumes from the bathroom and tile cleaner made my lungs burn, what would they do to my kids? And how much of those fumes would dissipate through the house? Questions like those plagued me, and I began my research.

What I found was troubling. Over the years, I’ve switched to natural cleaners in my own home, but that wasn’t enough. I discovered that women who work in the cleaning industry long-term have higher rates of certain types of cancers, reproductive disorders, and kidney problems. I also discovered that there are lots of people with chemical sensitivities who have health problems directly following having their home cleaned. And so the idea of Broom Huggers was born. In an effort to spread the word about natural cleaning, give women in the cleaning industry a healthier alternative, and protect the health of the community and the environment, I’ve had the opportunity to build a business around my family and spend precious time with my kids every day. It’s the best of both worlds, and it’s all because of my loyal clientele. So, thank you.
