One more thing to fear

April 23, 2008 | Health, Shopping

As if endocrine-disrupting BPA in baby bottles and sippy cups, and pesticides in fruits and veggies, hormones and antibiotics in milk and meats, and drugs in our water weren’t enough for us to worry about as we try to protect our kids, a study done by the Michigan-based Ecology Center found high levels of toxins in car seats, from infant rear-facing car seats all the way up to belt-positioning boosters. Walking the grocery aisles can be very overwhelming when you are trying to make healthy eating choices. There are twenty different varieties of the same thing and that can make you want to fall to the floor and scream “I just wanted some bread!”.

WFMW: Home decorating

March 12, 2008 | Organizing, Shopping, Lifestyle

I’m afraid I can’t take credit for this one. It’s my aunt’s idea, related to me by my mother. As it turns out, they’re some pretty smart ladies. The dilemma? Coordinating everything in the room when you’re redecorating, and making it accessible - to take with you to the fabric store, the paint store, etc… (more…)

I’m gonna save me some moola!

February 28, 2008 | Broom Hugged, Being Green, Shopping

Just when I was about to spend $15 a pop on 4 Foogo sippies for my kids, I came across this awesome post at The Soft Landing (another Co-Op America member). They’ve done their research, and it turns out that Nuby sippies, bottles, teethers, and spoons are BPA-free! This is great news because (a) I already have a few of them and don’t need to chuck them and (b) they’re CHEAP! I can buy them at WalMart for a couple bucks. (more…)

There are many different styles to choose from so you can get that perfect fit for your little ones bum and the perfect fit for whatever lifestyle you lead. (more…)

Phthalates do affect us, says the American Academy of Pediatrics

February 7, 2008 | Health, Shopping, Lifestyle

A new study was released that links the use of baby lotions, powders, and shampoos to reproductive disorder and endocrine disruption. The culprit? Phthalates. It’s a category of chemical that is used to stabilize artificial fragrances and does not need to be disclosed on the labeled ingredients of personal care products. It’s in most things with artificial fragrance, and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is now advising against it. (more…)

SC Johnson goes green - or does it?

January 24, 2008 | Reviews, Cleaning products, Shopping, News

SC Johnson has come up with a new ‘green’ rating system for their own products. Just days after Clorox rolled out their GreenWorks line, SC Johnson is responding with their “Greenlist.” Some of their products, including Windex, Pledge, Fantastik Orange Action, and Toilet Duck will have the Greenlist label slapped on the front.
